It all started on November 25, 1948, when Channel 5 broadcast a high school soccer game, becoming the first television station in the Pacific Northwest. Eight months later, Dorothy Bullitt, a local businesswoman, bought the station and started its tradition of quality local broadcasting. As a broadcasting pioneer and visionary, Mrs. Bullitt decided to change "Channel 5" to the call sign "The King of Letters." As audience usage of television grew rapidly, "KING" became a station with an impeccable reputation, setting the standard for stations across the country.
